santa and snowman….

I haven’t had a tremendous amount of help this week….

Otis has been busy….

So, I’ve had to manage on my own.  Finishing is always difficult for me… why?  I don’t know.  Is it the commitment?  The responsibility?  Whatever.  Actually finishing a punch needle project, big or small, is always painful.  However, I was able to get my Santa and my Snowman completed last week.

Here we go.  Snowman first:OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My Wynter Snowman features a freebie design from Bird in the Hand Primitives.  He was punched on weavers cloth with my favorite Valdani Floss.  wynter snowman PicMonkey Collage

He balances on a vintage Shower/Tub porcelain knob and is backed with lovely wool.

"whoa, whoa, Whoa, WHOAAA!"

“whoa, whoa, Whoa, WHOAAA!”

He wobbles fore and aft, and side to side.

"s*n*o*w*"

“s*n*o*w*”

And, he wears a “snow”-covered skirt.  woohoo!

Now, Santa rides through a winter’s night ~santa's christmas PicMonkey Collage

Santa’s backed with wool.  His rocker is covered in holiday homespun, while decorative antique clock bits adorn the ends.  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASanta, too, was punched with my Valdani favorites.  I’m always astonished by the beauty of Valdani, the depth of color and the character Valdani brings to my projects ~ I never tire of using this exquisite floss!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASanta carries a simple Christmas tree and jingles all the way.

"ho, ho, HO!"

“ho, ho, HO!”

Here comes Santa Claus!

What have you been working on?  Have you had someone to lend a paw?  Or, do you have to make all you decisions on your own, too?

happy weekend to you and yours ~ be warm, safe and content!

finishing snowmen…

duke

That doesn’t look like a snowman, does it?  No, but I am the proud aunt of Duke, the nicest dog in my world, and I get to stay with him for a whole week!  What a Christmas present!  Just look at those eyes ~ what a heart breaker!

While Duke snoozes, I go to work finishing my snowmen.

Here’s Wynter, a Freebie design from Bird in the Hand Primitives, in progress with the Valdani colors I used.

After I finished punching Wynter, I aged it with coffee, backed and edged it with wool and attached it to a board.   You can visit Wynter and a few other snowman finishes at Primitive Handmades Mercantile by clicking here.  If the link doesn’t work you can copy and paste the following address into your browser:  http://www.primitivehandmadesmercantile.com/p/the-simple-quiet.html

I always have fun making make dos.

hello!

hello!

This one was particularly fun because I decided to use an antique porcelain faucet as the base, which is rounded.  So, this snowman gets to wobble!

whoa, nellie!

whoa, nellie!

The best thing about the faucet is that it’s a cold water tap ~ I was so excited when I found it, I just couldn’t resist!

brrrr!

This happy snowman was on etsy but will be wending his way to his new home in Canada, soon.  I think he’ll fit right in!

Duke and I are enjoying the wintry weather, and hope you are doing the same!

Happy Holidays!

snowmen, snowmen…

ellis and his very own beloved and most favorite human, randy

I’ve set aside ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, for the nonce, and taken up work on some snowmen.  Once begun, snowmen just seem to snowball!  One innocent snowman becomes two, two become three, and next thing I know I’m in the midst of a sea of snowman projects ~ Such Fun!  Here’s one I’m working on entitled, “Wynter”.

I love this design from Bird in the Hand Primitives.  It’s one of Robin’s Freebie Doodles and is available on her blog right now.  Would you like a copy?  Just copy and paste the following address into your browser and you should get to Robin’s blog:  http://www.birdinthehandprimitives-robin.blogspot.com/.  (For some inexplicable reason, my ability to create “links” in my blog has evaporated.  My apologies for this extra step in getting to cool places, like Robin’s page!)

I was going great guns on Wynter until Otis discovered I was actually getting some work done…

otis takes advantage of a weak moment

otis takes advantage of my moment of weakness

I was under the impression that he just wanted a pat or two, but, as it turns out he was determined to commandeer my entire lap ~ ah, me.

While Otis languishes, Ellis makes good use of his time by playing with one of his wool puffs.

I think he looks a bit like Rudolf and, if nothing else, looks extremely endearing.

"i could guide a sleigh with my eyes closed!"

“i could guide a sleigh with my eyes closed!”

While working on Wynter, I decide to start a snowman make do and come up with this possible design.

This may take some time, however.  Not because of the design, but because Otis, once settled in, is reluctant to remove himself.  Let’s check in with him and see if he’ll budge…

I guess this is a time for dreaming and not for doing….

Wishing you quiet moments of warmth and  joy, today and every day!
