I remembered!  This is the third week of October, so that means Primitive Handmades Mercantile is having its update tomorrow, Thursday, at 9 o’clock pm.  I’ll be offering a few autumn silhouettes…..

I’ve finished my Halloween stockings!  So fun!  The White Witch, in the middle, has sold but the other two are available in my etsy shop.

stockings… they’re not just for christmas anymore…. and a pattern from cathy

I love making Christmas stockings, but Christmas only comes once a year ~ so what’s a girl to do?  There’s only one solution… make stockings for every holiday and season.  I have three Halloween/Autumn stockings in the works currently, and I’m having a ball!

One of my favorite designs is from Lori Brechlin of Notforgotten Farm.  This White Witch is right up my alley, and it’s the perfect size for a little stocking.

This is another design from the talented Robin of Bird in the Hand Primitives.  I adapted it a bit for a stocking.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Then I added some stocking stuffers….OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I think stocking stuffers are the reason I love stockings so much!  I backed and lined this stocking with ticking…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

…which is the same ticking I used to back the stocking stuffers.  Antique bone buttons and a little pocket finish the fun.

I’m excited to try my hand at Thanksgiving stockings next.  Here’s a design from Cathy Sowers of Four Ewe Farm.  She’s the one that does all those fabulous three-dimensional pieces I’ve been showing you, and she generously sent this pattern to me with her permission to share it with you!

I think this will make a great stocking!  Thank you Cathy!  If you use Cathy’s design, please giver her credit.

Enjoy these autumn days!

cathy continued…

I just had to come back and share this one from Cathy which didn’t get into my last post….

Is she not the sweetest thing?  Swoon!

I forgot, yesterday, to let you know that Cathy sells her finishes on ebay under the name, “fourewe”.  Click here to visit her shop.

embrace the day!

wytch one?

wytch one?

Etsy has just made my life simpler.  In the past, I’ve had requests for some of my patterns, but, I’m really, really bad at figuring out how to upload, download, scan, print, file…..  So, my designs have, largely, stayed at home with me.  However, Etsy recently added an easy fix by allowing me (and other artists) to upload patterns with one click.  Hurray!  No more hoops to jump through, no more technical language to learn… just click.  Hey, I can do that with one finger!  For those of you who are interested, “Wytch One?” the pattern, is now available for instant download from my etsy shop ~ click here ~ it’s a very simple, rough line drawing, but that’s what my designs are.  I’ll be adding new designs as time goes by… I’ll keep you posted.

halloween...

halloween…

Over the weekend, I worked on some Halloween decorating.  The silhouettes on the mantel are available in my Etsy shop ~ click here.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI added some little oil squirters…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA… and some diminutive sunflower heads that I purchased at a roadside stand.  I just love how the colors of the seed heads echo the tones of the silhouettes.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I downloaded the witch words (on either end of the mantel) from Hudsons Holidays, an Etsy shop.  You can visit the store here.  The fabulous Crows banner is from The Crackling Crows, another Etsy purchase.  Click here to see more of Ivonne Brown’s banners.

Of course, I had lots of help decorating….

Lilly is terrific at using her claws to create altered art.  Here, she sits proudly next to her latest creation.  She calls it, “The Claw is Mightier Than the Stool”.  It’s a work in progress which she attacks with gusto from time to time.

Ellis is always there to counsel and advise.  He doesn’t trust me an inch and stays glued to my side throughout any project, just to make sure I don’t err.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Silhouettes are so much fun, don’t you think?OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I would like to collect antique silhouettes, but, for now, I have a very special silhouette collection of my niece and nephew.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My sister had the kids silhouettes cut every year while they were growing up, until the very talented lady who created them decided to retired.

I wonder if Lilly, Ellis and Otis would sit still long enough to have their silhouettes cut…

lilly

Lilly might sleep long enough to have hers done, but she’s never in a silhouette-ish position.

Otis, too….

ellis

Ellis, himself, looks a bit like a silhouette already…

I’d like to learn how to cut silhouettes, though my live in models may not be the perfect subjects for practicing the art.  The next best thing to being able to cut my own silhouettes has to be punching them.  I started two silhouette projects this week.
